How Affiliate Programs Can Enhance Your Blog

If you have a blog, and you are not yet a member of an affiliate network, you should consider joining one. Affiliate programs are simple: You put up links on your blog, and if someone follows that link and then makes a purchase, you get a percentage of the purchase as your fee. If your blog is mostly about jewelry, include some links to jewelry that you admire. You're writing for a specific audience, so consider what you think they might like when placing links. What do you think they might purchase? What would you purchase? Adding links in this way can actually get you more readers, while putting a few dollars into your pocket at the same time.

Include products or services that you really like or admire. You've built trust between you and your readership, so only recommend things that you'd buy yourself. If there are good points as well as bad points about the product, note them in the post. The best results (ie: more sales) come from the honest appraisal of a product.

Place deep links on your blog. By this, I mean link to a specific product, instead of a general link to the front page of a site. Your readers are more likely to click on an ad or link for something they like than they are to click on a banner to a site. For example, if you're writing about bold, chunky necklaces to go with this year's styles, include a link to some bold, chunky necklaces, not to just a site that sells them. If the links you include are useful, a good affiliate program can actually enhance your blog and up your readership.

Track your sales, and note what sells. A lot of affiliate programs will have some sort of tracking so that you can see which of your links are the most effective. If you can't find any of these, send an email to the affiliate managers of the companies whose products you promote. Affiliate managers are motivated to help you with your sales, and an email to them is sure to get you a return reply with some valuable tips. The more money you make from your site, the more money the companies you promote make, and affiliate managers will want to make sure that you have all the tools you need.

Joining an affiliate program is a wise move for a blogger. You can add products that add color and excitement to your blog posts. If done in the right way, it can improve your blog and up your traffic, while making a little money in the process.
